Spring Repair
Replaced a snapped torsion spring and re-balanced a two-car steel door so the opener stopped straining.
The problem
The homeowner heard a loud bang from the garage early in the morning. The opener would lift the door a few inches and stop, and the door felt far too heavy to lift by hand. One of the two torsion springs had snapped.
What we did
- Secured the door and disconnected the opener so it couldn't strain further.
- Measured the door's weight and height to size the new springs correctly.
- Replaced both torsion springs, since the second had the same wear as the broken one.
- Balanced the door by hand, lubricated the hardware and reset the opener's force and limits.
The result
The door now lifts smoothly and stays put halfway open, and the opener runs quietly without straining.
