Sectional garage doors are made of several horizontal panels hinged together. When one gets damaged, it can often be swapped out on its own.
Whether that's a good idea depends on your door's model, age and the extent of the damage.
When single-panel replacement works
- The damage is limited to one or two sections.
- The tracks and frame are straight.
- Your door's make and model is still available.
- The door is in good shape otherwise.
When a new door is the better call
- Several sections are damaged.
- The door model is discontinued, so new sections won't match.
- The door is older and sun-faded, so a new panel would stand out.
- The tracks and frame are bent.

How panel matching works
To match a new section, we identify the door's manufacturer, model, size and panel design, usually from labels on the door or the hardware. New sections must match the style, thickness and color.
Older doors can fade over time, so even an exact match may look slightly different at first.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find out my garage door model?
Look for a label on the inside of the door, often on the end stile or the top section. A technician can also identify it.
Can you repair a dented panel instead of replacing it?
Small cosmetic dents can sometimes be left alone. Dents that bend the panel edges or cause binding usually need replacement.
Is it safe to use a door with a damaged panel?
Minor dents are usually fine. Stop using the door if it binds, the panel is cracked, or the tracks are bent.
